Overview

Osmo UV Protection Oil provides a protective finish in a beautiful satin sheen for exterior vertical woodwork. The clear finish enhances the wood’s natural beauty and character. Two coats can be applied to the timber for optimum protection and a warm rich effect, or the finish can be used as a top coat for wood previously colour treated (such as Osmo Country Colour).

FEATURES

  • Outstanding durability against weathering
  • The 420 Extra contains active biocides to protect wood against mould, algae and fungal attack

PREPARATION

Wooden surfaces must be clean, dry and free from contaminates (max. moisture content 20%).

New Wood

  1. Surfaces should be sanded with P120 grit abrasive and no finer
  2. New wood and especially exotic hardwoods should be allowed to weather for approximately 6 weeks prior to application of Osmo UV Protection Oil
  3. De-grease surfaces with methylated spirit or Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner 8000 before oiling
  4. Fill any holes or gaps with exterior wood filler
  5. For enhanced protection, apply a base coat of Osmo WR Base Coat

Old Wood

  1. Clean old microporous oil finishes thoroughly
  2. Treat areas affected by mould and algae with Osmo Gard Clean
  3. Completely remove old paints and lacquers
  4. If the colour of the timber has turned grey over time, this can be restored using Osmo Wood Reviver Power Gel 6609 prior to oiling
  5. Start with the steps for New Wood

APPLICATION

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and to check you are happy with the final finish. Ensure you are following the manufacturer’s instructions on the tin. The product is ready to use and does not require thinning.

1. Stir thoroughly before and during application

2. Treat all sides of the timber including edges and ends prior to installation

3. Apply protection oil thinly along the wood grain with Osmo Soft Tip Brush

4. Work the oil into the grain and wipe off any excess

5. Allow to fully dry and repeat for second coat
