PREPARATION
Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of all dust and dirt contaminants. The maximum moisture content of the timber is 20%. To ensure the integrity of the finish and performance, Osmo recommend all traces of previous finishes are removed and the oil applied to clean, bare wood.
Existing oiled surfaces can be lightly rubbed back with methylated spirit then fully cleaned.
Pre-existing paints, varnishes, waxes and sealers must be removed completely, either by sanding or with a suitable paint stripper/remover. Use a Wood Filler or Grain Sealer when repairing small holes/dents. In rooms susceptible to moisture, it is strongly recommended to apply a base coat of Osmo Wood Protector to prevent blue stain.
APPLICATION
As with all clear wood oils, the finish will enhance the grain and character of the wood by giving it a damp like appearance. We strongly recommend trialling a test area on the timber to check you are happy with the finish.
Osmo Polyx Oil Original is ready to use, please do not thin. The ideal applicator is a firm fine natural bristled brush. For optimum results, apply the oil thinly and remove any excess oil from the surface with a lint-free cloth.
Application to Wood Floors
Apply first coat thinly along the wood grain. We recommend using the Osmo Floor Brush in conjunction with the Osmo Telescopic Handle for maximum efficiency.
Remove surplus oil, leave to dry for 8-10 hours
Lightly de-nib surface and remove traces of sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner
Apply a second thin coat, then allow to fully dry
AFTER CARE
Regular Cleaning
For daily maintenance in domestic use a floor mop or vacuum cleaner will suffice as well as use of the Osmo Wash and Care or Osmo Spray Cleaner. These are non-aggressive treatments suitable for regular cleaning.
Deep Cleaning
For the more stubborn stains, we strongly recommend use of the Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner.
Restoring
Osmo Maintenance Oil can also be used for restoring and maintaining the finish, as well as changing the gloss level of surfaces treated with Osmo Polyx Oil
